How to get to the Rataquenua Viewpoint?
The climb to the cross of “El Mirador” in Rataquenua by taxi takes about 15 minutes, since the road is unpaved, with a cost ranging from 5 to 10 soles. It is not recommended to go up to the viewpoint on foot, since it is not There is a lot to see on the way up and the path is steep and dusty.
In Rataquenua, there is a large cross and a building full of graffiti, and obviously a magnificent view of Huaraz. But don't just sit there looking at the landscape, since this is where the walk and the adventure begins.
Continue going up the road or arrange with the taxi to take you up, for two extra soles, to a point where there is a eucalyptus forest, which is more or less where the cliffs of Rataquenua begin. From there continue walking for about an hour, until the rock wall on your right ends.
From there you just have to go down the roads that you see like big fingers to Huaraz. We recommend taking the taxi to the viewpoint around 3pm, to have time to walk the path calmly, just when the sun is not so strong, and you will be in time to see the beautiful sunset just before descending, around 6pm. We do not recommend going down later, because the path without light becomes dangerous.
